World Reflexology Week 2012 is focusing on Men’s Health.
Lifestyle choices definitely have a part to play in why women generally live longer than men. This is backed up by the large variability in men’s health and life expectancy across the 27 member countries in Europe today. So it’s essential that men take more interest in their health than the previous generations. Diet, exercise and a healthy work/life balance is so important and men need to become more confident in seeking help through a doctor when they experience ill health. Men also need to learn to recognise the signs of stress and anxiety and take action.
Complementary therapies can be the perfect answer to stress and anxiety as they provide a little more help and support at times when you’re trying to release tension and improve your sense of well-being. Reflexology is an easy complementary therapy to try as you only need to remove your shoes and socks.
As it’s a holistic treatment, a consultation takes place first which enables the treatment to be tailored to you as an individual. The sequence of movements over the feet or hands during a treatment can result in increased relaxation and a reduction of tension which in turn can help any ailments a person has. As Jim Pollard said in his book, ‘All right mate? An easy intro to men’s health’, “Reflexology – doesn’t tickle and feels great”.
Reducing stress and anxiety may help you live longer and the added bonus is you’ll look better too. Your well-being is in your hands so why not give reflexology a go.
