I’ve been treating ladies to reflexology and massage for 6 years now and lots of them come to see me when they are trying to get pregnant. Some fall pregnant after 1 or 2 treatments and others need all sorts of help to achieve their dreams of becoming a mother. I myself tried all sorts of things and eventually chose to adopt. However even once we met our daughter through adoption becoming pregnant was still often on my mind. Would I ever achieve a pregnancy? Would I ever experience what it’s like to be pregnant and give birth to a child? Would I ever see what a baby made by me and my husband would look like or be like? So I have huge empathy for all the ladies that I meet that are waiting to be a mum and are asking all of these questions and many more or their own.
The questions I believe most ladies would love an answer to when they are trying to conceive is, “When will I get pregnant” and “What do I need to do to make it happen”. The problem is it’s hard to know what the change is in women who suddenly conceive naturally or whose 3rd or 4th or more IVFs finally gets them to the end goal of having a child of their own. It might be a conversation she’s had with a parent which has brought relief as she realises how supported she is. It could be a womb yoga workshop which has unlocked her womb space. It could be the single or series of reflexology/ fertility massage treatments that I’ve been honoured to provide which has relaxed her body and given her body the boost and encouragement it needed. Maybe it’s the meditations, visualisations or diary writing which has connected her mind with her body. I believe it’s a unique combination of things that are individual to that lady.
The feedback I often get from the ladies I see is that by talking all this through with them I give them renewed hope and optimism that they can and will conceive and that is always wonderful to hear. It’s so important to realise that you can take some control over your fertility and you are not alone in struggling to get there.
So my advice is to listen to your own thoughts and feelings and think about what your mind and body is telling you. That will help you choose the right conversations, activities and or treatments that you need to engage in to give yourself the best chance of conceiving.
I wish you all the very best.
